In 1980, it was a handcrafted dream—born from pure passion and the courage to turn it into a challenge to be won on the track every week. Today, it is a global brand, active in 26 championships from New Zealand to the USA.

The journey that made this transformation possible has been filled with countless exciting milestones. Some of these have become defining moments in a growth process driven by daily dedication and vision—always accompanied by the same passion and courage that first ignited the engine and have never left us since.

The birth and first steps in Motorsport

Founded by Artico Sandonà in 1980, Tatuus is deeply rooted in the purest Italian motorsport tradition. Formula Monza, Formula Panda, Formula Alfa Boxer, and Formula König—unique cars that have remained in the hearts of the early years enthusiasts.

The late ‘80s and ‘90s marked Tatuus' era as a racing team, competing in Formula 3, Formula Alfa Boxer, and Formula Renault championships, bringing both its own and other manufacturers' cars to the track. These were the years when future stars like Tony Kanaan, Enrique Bernoldi, Tommy Rustad, and many other motorsport greats began their incredible journeys behind the wheel of a Tatuus

Formula Renault 2000

The new millennium was synonymous with Formula Renault. The most iconic Tatuus car, known by motorsport enthusiasts worldwide, was produced in nearly 1,000 units—a true global record for a single-seater. With this car, Tatuus’ story took a decisive turn: no longer just a team, but a Race Car Manufacturer.

Felipe Massa was the first to claim the title in the Tatuus era in 2000, paving the way for a remarkable list of elite talents. The FR2000 became the training ground for future motorsport legends before they reached the pinnacle of racing.

From Lewis Hamilton to Kimi Räikkönen, and through Valtteri Bottas, Sébastien Buemi, Paul Di Resta, Romain Grosjean, Robert Kubica, Kamui Kobayashi, Augusto Farfus, Charles Leclerc, Kevin Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, and many more—the legacy of the Formula Renault 2000 lives on.

From Europe to New Zealand

Tatuus' mission becomes increasingly global, and in 2005, a partnership with Toyota GR New Zealand is born. A collaboration that continues to this day, shaping numerous future Formula 1 drivers over the years.

These were also the years of Formula Masters, Formula Abarth and the PY012, unique projects that marked the first collaborations with Autotecnica Motori. A partnership that would grow stronger and evolve in the years to come

Formula 4

In 2014, a revolution in global motorsport coincided with the birth of a groundbreaking Tatuus project: the T-014, first-generation Formula 4 car.

Launched alongside the Italian F4 Championship, the very first of its kind, the category quickly grew and expanded, achieving global reach. In just a few years, hundreds of Tatuus F4 cars hit the track, giving young drivers the opportunity to take their first step on the single-seater ladder

The “Road to Indy”

2016 marked the beginning of an exciting new journey: Tatuus’ American adventure with the USF Road to Indy, alongside Andersen Promotions and Carl Haas, to train young drivers chasing their IndyCar dream.

From the Streets of St. Petersburg in Florida to the Indy Grand Prix at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and through legendary circuits like Road America and Mid-Ohio, Tatuus cars in the three USF Pro Championships share the paddock with IndyCar, delivering thrilling, hard-fought races every season

A Motorsport Group

The final months of 2017 marked a pivotal turning point for Tatuus, as it joined forces with Autotecnica Motori, laying the foundation for a Motorsport Group that would soon welcome Breda Racing. This elite Italian motorsport holding expanded even further in 2024 with the addition of YCOM.

With expertise in engineering, production, and services, and an exceptional ability to manage every aspect of the most ambitious motorsport projects, this Group is built on a legacy of success—driven to achieve even greater milestones

Bridging two decades

Between the 2010s and 2020s, numerous race cars took shape within Tatuus' facilities. In 2018, the T-318 was born: first generation Formula Regional, which has already nurtured many of today’s top Formula 1 talents.

Then, in 2021, the GB3 Championship took on its current form, further strengthening the bond between Tatuus and MotorSport Vision (MSV). This partnership has not only produced beloved race cars for drivers and fans alike but has also paved the way for unique races and groundbreaking projects.

A new generation of Formula 4

In 2022, the T-421 made its debut—the second-generation Formula 4, quickly becoming one of the most iconic Tatuus cars ever. With the expansion of F4 championships worldwide, this record-breaking single seater went from its first production model to the historic 300th unit in just two years.

A proving ground for the stars of tomorrow, the T-421 has already helped shape the careers of rising talents like Andrea Kimi Antonelli, cementing its place in motorsport history.

A new HQ

In January 2023, Tatuus HQ officially opened its doors—a cutting-edge facility that brings motorsport design and manufacturing back to a historic site of Italian automotive tradition: the border between Lainate and Arese, once home to Alfa Romeo.

This state-of-the-art headquarters houses all company departments, from engineering to vehicle assembly, covering every aspect of management and operations. Thanks to its specific design, Tatuus HQ is also the perfect venue for media activities and corporate events, whether hosted by Tatuus or third-party organizations.

Present, future & new challenges

The present is marked by new race cars, like the MSV-GB3-025, unveiled in 2024, and exciting new projects. But the story of Tatuus has always been a thrilling journey of challenges, achievements, and milestones, all driven by passion and relentless dedication.

The future holds the same winning formula—pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted horizons, always in pursuit of excellence.
